Mbalit Project

KMC Inaugurates the Mbalit Project

KMC Inaugurates the Mbalit Project which is a historic and innovative municipal waste management initiative between KM ward development committees and Espace Motors facilitated by the Kanifing Municipal Council.

The PPP lifespan is 3 years after which the trucks will be fully owned by the KMC. It consists of 19 wards and the fees for residents are D50-D100 a month for weekly collection depending on usage.

We assumed the trucks would be the highlight of the event however this was overshadowed by the unity and humility shown by people from different parties demonstrated by a rare handshake between UDP party leader and APRC national mobiliser.

Mayor Bensouda Meets The Entire Mbalit Team

After 60,000 collections in 25 days, Mayor Talib Bensouda had a meeting with the entire Mbalit team including Drivers, Janitors, Secretaries and Ticket Sellers to get first hand information on their experiences.

The lord Mayor also invited the Mbalit committee to take notes so that the recommendations can be developed to support the team. The interactions were pure quality and The Lord Mayor was inspired by the team dedication and he is confident that this project was a great initiative.

Mbalit is a very complex operation and so far so good. We implore the general public to give their feedback on their Mbalit experiences at their nearest ward office.
